holiday handmades--Sarah's shawl

brrrrrrrrrrrr...

Here is Sarah's Christmas shawl.  I fell in love with Alicia's version of this chauffe-coeur pattern.  Isn't hers darling?  But then I realized that the pattern is only available in french.  I ordered a copy of it anyway, but decided it was just way too complicated!!

So, I found this similar pattern, changed the gauge and the stitch count, and basically winged it!  I was so excited when it actually turned out how I wanted it to!!  Well, except for the fact that I started out making it to fit Hannah, and it ended up many sizes smaller than I had intended.  Thank goodness for little sisters!

I used Berrocco Vintage Chunky yarn from my stash.  Not my favorite yarn, but it knit up soft and cozy as a shawl.

And this little girl loves it!  Hooray!!

Sarah's shawl turned out beautiful, I love the mustard colour and I went to the pattern and I am so impressed you were able to adapt it from a baby pattern. I am new knitter (learned in November), but this project is the sort I am interested - something you can't buy in the shops, you know? Well done.

Very cute Tricia! On a side note, I am desperately looking for child sized hangers like the one pictured...I bought ten from Ikea over a year ago, and now they don't have them. Do you mind sharing where you found yours?

Gasp! This is the sweetest thing, ever!!! Do you by any chance still have the gauge and stitch count you used? My little one is right around Sarah's size and my friend and I would like to tackle this project for our girls.

So sweet!

Mandy, we have lots of the children's wooden Ikea hangers, but need more as well. I've had it on my list, but every time I go to Ikea, they're out of them. I'm guessing they just don't carry them anymore. Bummer! However, I just googled around, and looks like there are plenty of them for sale around the web. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone for the shawl love! Lynne, I'm terrible at making knitting project notes as I go, so I don't know if I can give exact gauge and stitch count. But I'll see what I did scribble down on my pattern, and let you know if it's enough to go on! I'll hurry and get you the details. But definitely one of the cutest things I've knit, plus super simple and fast, which is always a bonus!

love the shawl and great color, too!
i also LOVE the dress in the picture - did you use a pattern for it?

Daniela, the pattern I used for the dress is from a Japanese sewing book. The info. is in this previous post: http://www.ourhomemadehappy.com/2011/10/family-portraits-and-dress.html

But, since I couldn't understand any of the directions, and since I was missing one pattern piece, I sort of did some improvising! :)
